Name: Nona
Gaye
Date of Birth: September 17, 1974
Place of Birth: Los Angeles, CA USA
From
the day she appeared with her father, music legend Marvin Gaye, on Soul Train
at the age of seven, to singing her own music, and walking the runway in Paris
for Gianni Versace, Nona Gaye has always loved to perform.
Nona has continued this love by recently completing the female lead in the feature
film ALI, starring Will Smith, and directed by Michael Mann. In addition, she
has returned to the recording studio.
By the age of fifteen, Nona landed a deal with Third Stone Records, owned by
actor Michael Douglas. By eighteen, working with many highly respected producers,
including Keith Crouch (Brandy), Aaron Zigman, Christina Aguilera, and Jerry
Knight (Aretha Franklin), Nona released her first album to high praise in the
music industry. Soon after, she went on to record several songs with Prince,
including "Love Sign," which was used in a public service announcement supporting
gun control.
In 1995, Nona returned to her rich musical heritage when she recorded her father's
classic, "Inner City Blues". This was the title song from Motown's tribute album
in his honor, which also included covers from Madonna, Boyz II Men, and Bono.
It is from this amazing heritage and artistic passion, Nona Gaye steps into
her future. A future that has already begun in film, music, and performing in
anyway she can, to reach out to people as they, too, will "lean forward breathlessly
to hear."
