THE ART OF THE MATRIX PART 2 - REL/REV
Source: <Matrixfans.net>

Matrixfans.net received an email on a future "Art of..." book:

Man, imagine the big grin on my face this morning after flipping through my Brand 'Spanking' new copy of The Matrix Comics I got last night before seeing Revolutions in IMAX (btw, 10X better than the 35mm theater). Only got a chance to actually open the book this morning. On the second to last page of the book it says:

"The Art of The Matrix Reloaded Revolutions
Hundreds of storyboards, conceptual illustrations and photos

Artist and crew commentaries throughout. Coming in 2004

Designed by the same team that brought you The Art of the Matrix"

Well in the AOTM, they had the full script in there, and deleted portions of earlier drafts, so I hope they put that in the book. They also don't mention if it's one or two volumes, but it sounds like just one book.; but then again WB really seems to want to wring every last drop of profit out of the wet cloth that is the Matrix brand. But its still great to see in the Matrix Comics a solid confirmation that there will be a future 'Art of' book.

LOVE IT OR HATE IT, NUMBERS AND FIGURES
Source: <Variety>

(Variety) They love it or hate it: There's no middle ground, evidently, in auds' reactions to "The Matrix Revolutions," prompting sharply different prognostications last week from exhibs on how fast the Wachowski brothers' pic will descend after its record-busting international debut.

The final chapter of the trilogy is generating strong word of mouth in Japan, Italy and Spain, and bookers in the latter two were expecting mild second weekend falls of 30%-40%.

"People are coming out of cinemas saying it's simpler than 'Reloaded'; they like the fact there's less philosophy," noted one programmer in Madrid.

But the reactions generally aren't positive in the U.K., Germany, France and Australia, according to local bookers, and those in Blighty and Oz were steeling themselves for drops of around 50%.

One Gallic exhib predicted a rapid decline, noting the pic is chiefly drawing adolescents who usually flock to the first weekend.

For the record: The WB/Village Roadshow co-prod conjured up an unprecedented $119 million on 10,013 prints in its first five days in 107 territories, including 18 Imax screens, according to Warner's revised numbers.

That topped "The Matrix Reloaded's" $113.2 million three-day haul in May from launches in 80 markets and its soph sessions in 16 countries. In seven days, the final installment amassed an estimated $138.7 million.

Two rival distribs are anticipating an eventual tally of around $350 million, which would be impressive, although way below the forerunner's $456 million.

REVOLUTIONS COVERAGE ON SCIFI
Source: <SciFi Talk>

Thanks to Warner Bros, Sci-Fi Talk has obtained the interviews on this long awaited film. Producer Joel Silver and the cast give their thoughts on wrapping up this monumental trilogy. .

Don Davis - Composer, Matrix Trilogy

I had the pleasure of speaking to Don Davis on composing the music for the Matrix trilogy in addition to scoring Enter The Matrix video game.

"Matrix Revolutions comes to a definite conclusion. Revolutions is an epic film. I would be derelict in my duty if the music did not reflect that. I'm really proud of the choral arraignments in the film.If you watch what the Wachowski's are doing. they're working with texture. They use the rain in the final battle between Smith and Neo as an overriding texture which adds so much fiber. When you see the whole fight and there's one section when they are in a building and they are silhouetted against the building, It's beautiful."

Airs in two parts rotated daily.

Randall Duk Kim, The Matrix Keymaker

I spoke to the Keymaker himself on his role in Matrix Reloaded and its appearance on DVD.

"I'm such a big fan of the first Matrix, that I said absolutely.I flew to LA and auditioned for the brothers. The next day I got a call that they were very interested, and a few days later I got the job. I was flying around this apartment. The minute I stepped on the Keymaker set, I was in love with that set. I was hoping that they would expand the scene a little bit so the audience could get a good look at it. It was everybody's favorite set."

Check schedule for airings.

SEQUELS CREATE SIMILIAR RESPONS
Source: <Dateline Hollywood>

Memory of quality, groundbreaking original film actually false memory created by Warner Bros.

HOLLYWOOD – All around the world, millions of moviegoers have been asking themselves the same question this year: “How could the ‘Matrix’ sequels be so bad? Did I just dream that first movie I liked so much?”

While posed as a rhetorical question, it turns out the latter question has a surprising answer: “Yes.” Researchers at Stanford University have uncovered an elaborate manipulation of reality by Warner Bros., the studio behind “The Matrix” films, to make people around the globe believe that the original “Matrix” was innovative and exciting, thereby motivating millions of moviegoers to see incomprehensible, illogical, unoriginal sequels “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions.”

“It turns out the reality we all blindly accept is nothing but a creation by Hollywood studios to whom we are little more than drone-like sources of energy off which they feed,” said Cliff Nasstrum, director of the Center for the Study of Alternate Realities at Stanford. “This raises profound questions about the nature of American popular culture and whether any of our memories of high quality film, television and music are genuine.”

Nasstrum and his fellow researchers first came upon the intervention in reality by Warner Bros. during a study of the intersections of alternate dimensions. They came upon a ripple in our own dimension that took place in May of 1999, about a month after “The Matrix” was released. Through sophisticated tracking techniques, Nasstrum was able to discover that the ripple altered the content of the memories of millions of filmgoers, in addition to the contents of film reviews in newspapers and on the Internet.

“We were able to reconstruct some of these reviews and our findings were shocking,” Nasstrum explained. “It turns out that nearly everyone thought the original ‘Matrix’ was illogical, full of action scenes largely derivative of other films, and populated with mysterious characters who attempt to explain the plot but actually only confuse viewers. We compared these with reviews of the two ‘Matrix’ sequels and were shocked at the similarities.”

BOX OFFICE NUMBERS
Source: <Box Office Mojo>

HOLLYWOOD (Box Office Mojo) - The Matrix Revolutions raked in $28 million worldwide on Thursday, down 35% from its opening day and propelling its global total to $71.1 million in two days.

Playing in 107 territories overseas, Revolutions pulled in $17 million, down 9.6% from Wednesday's $18.8 million haul. The international tally stands at $35.8 million after two days. The Matrix and The Matrix Reloaded were overseas phenoms, grossing $289 million and $454 million respectively by the end of their runs.

Though the United States and Canada accounted for $24,311,365 of the $43.1 million worldwide opening day, the ratio shifted in favor of the overseas markets on Thursday. Domestically, business was down 54.7% to $11,003,481, bringing the two-day tally to $35,314,846.

Revolutions' second day domestic drop was in line with other massive fan-driven mid-week openers. Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace tumbled 56.9% from its record $28,542,349 Wednesday opening to $12,307,918. Slightly buoyed by the Christmas holiday, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers fell 46.9% from its $26,159,972 bow to $13,878,712, while The Fellowship of the Ring took a similar hit.

If Revolutions follows a similar trajectory as those pictures, that would mean an opening weekend of around $58 million, enough to rank in the top 20 of all debuts, the top five of November bows and likely second only to Reloaded among R-rated movies.

The decidedly mixed reaction to Reloaded among moviegoers undoubtedly hurt Revolutions, but Revolutions was destined to make less even if everyone loved Reloaded. Reloaded had four years of pent-up demand, whereas Revolutions had merely six months. The fact that there was no break from The Matrix in those six months - the full theatrical cycle, the IMAX release, the DVD release, etc. - only compounded matters. The Matrix has seemingly been in the air non-stop since May, lessening the event status of Revolutions.

In an unprecedented "global assault", "The Matrix Revolutions" is basically everywhere. Let the cash roll in.

In a first-ever global theatrical debut, the movie will open Wednesday on 10,013 screens in more than 50 countries and in 43 languages, including Hungarian, Mandarin and Turkish. Theaters will begin showing the movie at precisely the same hour worldwide, beginning in Los Angeles at 6 a.m., in New York at 9 a.m., in Moscow at 5 p.m. and at 11 p.m. in Tokyo.

What's more, moviegoers won't have to wait to see, up close, the film's humans battling machines on giant screens: the movie is also being released for the first time simultaneously in Imax theaters in nine countries.

"It's showmanship," said Alan Horn, president of Warner Brothers Entertainment, which is distributing the movie. He said the global debut was the brainchild of the trilogy's producer, Joel Silver.
